Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility (LWConsInit) Version: 1.5.0 Copyright © 2011-2013 Gregory Peter Gibb The Real-Time Coffee Shoppe =============================================================================== Overview -------- The Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility is designed to enable the use of the Lightworks MkI and MkII serial based (RS232) consoles with EditShare's Lightworks NLE software running on Windows XP, Vista and 7 (32- and 64-bit versions), using any serial port type (USB, card or motherboard). The utility only needs to be run once per Windows session or whenever the power to the Lightworks console is cycled. The Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility will work on: - any make of Windows compatible computer system (E.g. Sony, HP or "Boot Camp" Apple) - any type of Windows compatible computer system, be it a laptop or a desktop machine. - any 32-bit or 64-bit version of the Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems. - any type of Windows compatible serial port (USB, PCI or motherboard) that has been correctly installed and configured with the correct manufacturer's drivers. - any serial port number (not just COM1 and COM2) and with any working IRQ setting. This is NOT a replacement for the Lightworks console driver, but a utility that attempts to get the Lightworks console driver working. Requirements ------------ The following must be installed in order for the utility to function properly: - The latest EditShare Lightworks console drivers for the relevant version of the Windows Operating System (installed as per EditShare's console driver installation instructions). - Microsoft .Net Framework version 2.0 or greater. Installation ------------ Any previous installations of the Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility (including demo version) must be uninstalled first before the installation of a newer version can be performed. The uninstall option can be found under the "Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility" section of the "Programs" (for Windows XP) or "All Programs" (for Windows Vista/7) section of the Start Menu. To install the Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility, double click on the "Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility 1.3.0.msi" file and follow the on-screen instructions. Launching The Application ------------------------- During the Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility installation, shortcuts to the application are placed on the Windows Desktop as well as under the "Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility" section of the "Programs" (for Windows XP) or "All Programs" (for Windows Vista/7) section of the Start Menu. The application can be launched manually at any time by: - double-clicking on the Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility Windows Desktop icon, or - clicking on the Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility shortcut created under the Start Menu. Demo Version ------------ The demo version of the Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility performs in exactly the same way as the Full Version, except that the user is required to manually launch the utility and then type in a sequence of characters before the Lightworks console initialisation can occur. The demo version will never expire, so it can be used every day. The demo version does not need an Internet connection in order to function. The only restriction with the demo version is that a randomly generated sequence of characters needs to be typed in by the user before the utility will initialise your Lightworks console. This is simply to encourage you to purchase the full version of the utility, which works exactly the same as the demo version, but does not require any user interaction. Full Version ------------ The full version of the Lightworks Console Initialisation Utility does not require any user interaction, and can be launched automatically at Windows start-up (using a scheduled task) or when a user logs into Windows (by placing a link to the utility in the "Startup" Start Menu folder).
